The Imperial Republic of Japan was established in 1948 as a joint governing experiment featuring the cooperation of the Japanese Imperial Government and the United States Occupation Forces. Soviet Russia’s advances towards Asia and their involvement in the Chinese Civil War proved that containment was the highest priority. Operation Downfall’s moderate success and bloodshed concluded with the reality that the Japanese were the perfect bulwark against Asian Communism. In exchange for local sovereignty, the Emperor of Japan was to assist in Anti-Communist operations within Asia, utilizing experienced Japanese military personnel with connections to nations such as Vietnam to curtail Soviet and Communist Chinese supported militias.
Despite this tenuous alliance, the Imperial Republic of Japan and the United States enjoyed a cordial relationship featuring cultural exchanges such as sagas featuring a Samurai and a Cowboy through a joint venture with Walt Disney and a team of Japanese animators before his passing in 1968.
